Why I Take 45 Minutes For Me Daily

45 minutes a day - daily mental health as a mom

Just being honest – one of my biggest worries about becoming a mother was what would happen to my me time? Would I be able to get my eyelashes done? My mani/pedi? What about getting my workout in?  I know these things sound trite, but they aren’t. They are the small things that make us feel like not just Moms and provide a sense of normalcy, especially on the days where we’ve had to clean up a blow out diaper or affectionately have a toddler throw food in our hair. Realistically, I knew that ‘me’ time doesn’t mean hours to myself anymore, but giving myself a moment to reset each day is a nonnegotiable. This is why I give myself 45 minutes each day to do me.

Let me just caveat that this time is time I make for myself – it’s not extra time that I have. It often means waking up at 5am or sneaking away, while the kids nap. It means sacrificing other things {i.e. folding laundry – also why can’t it fold itself!} to take care of my own mental health daily.

Daily Mental Health Care for Moms

If you invest in you, won’t you be a better you? A better wife? A better Mom? I’m giving you permission to take a moment for you, because here’s what I’ve noticed as a result:

  • More energy and focus around the kids
  • No resentment towards my hubby
  • Decreases burn out
  • Maintain my sense of self

So how do I use those 45 minutes? I love a good sweat sesh, but sometimes its a mani, a drive or even drinking hot coffee {imagine that right?}.

For the Moms out there, we often wrestle with the guilt that we feel taking this time for ourselves, because it can be an opportunity that we can be spending with our kids right? Here’s what I will say to you. I’m giving you a proverbial pass to push those feelings to the side – here’s why. You will never regret giving yourself this time for you, but what you will regret is lashing out at your toddler, not being mentally present with your family, hating on your hubby, you get the picture. 45 Minutes will not break you as a mother, it will make you better.

How will you take your 45 minutes ?
