There’s the keto diet, no carb, low sugar, only juicing diets, but have you ever done a spending cleanse aka taking a month of limiting any superfluous spending of your money? Before you close out of this, I’m a self-proclaimed lover of online shopping. I obsessively love tracking packages {I know it’s odd}, so taking a month off isn’t an easy feat, but for the past 10 years Eddie and I have done this and as a result have saved $100s and even $1000s.

Here are some tips and tricks on how we do it:
- We have been managing our funds through the Mint app to keep us in the know and transparent about what’s going in and what’s going out. I love it because it allows us to drill down and it’s really see where we overspend. We noticed we were Amazon Prime finger happy. Don’t know what I mean? Do you ever mention something to a friend and boom there it is the next day? We were buying some S T U P I D shit just because. #guilty
- Next we pick two months a year where we know we aren’t going to be incurring any major expenses. Often we will do this after the holidays, because we know we have nothing crazy going on. I cannot stress enough how important it is to be in agreement about this, because being in sync means you will keep each other in check.
- Major key alert: Don’t do this when you NEED to do it. Be proactive, so you can benefit from the extra cash in other months.
- Newsflash, our spending cleanse month, doesn’t mean we aren’t social. We are! It’s just finding those areas where we sometimes spend frivolously {helllllooo shoes!}. Remember this isn’t a punishment, it is about bringing consciousness to spend when we are so apt to swiping or checking out in one click.
- Check in and share how much you’ve spent week over week so you both have a pulse on what’s happening.
The last few times we’ve been done this, we have been able to save a few thousand dollars *picks jaw up off the floor*.
