5 tips on how to establish your personal brand

State your purpose

I was talking so much about this last week on Instagram. When you are thinking about your IG, tiktok, Facebook, Pinterest, think about what is your purpose? Why are you even doing this? Yes, to share the highlights of your life, but how can you add depth and dimension to what people know or think they know about you. When I started @Everydayvogue I made that clear from day one. I was so tired of the IG perfect bs I was seeing, no depth, no thoughtfully written content – I was over it. I love the photos, but give me more! Be vulnerable, but make it beautiful. Educate people on different topics, but inspire. Be relatable. Earn people’s trust. Think about these things and how you can weave it into your narrative – your storyline, which by the way – everyone has no matter if you are trying or not.

How will it look and feel?

Defining your aesthetic. Ah this one can be hard, but easy but hard. You will notice if you scroll down my feed and on this blog, you will seldom see my husband or twins in anything but black, white, gray, neutrals and pops of green – specifically jade. It’s pretty rare when we pop a color in there. That’s by design. I like to be the pop of color. I like to be the something extra, but I also like for there to be consistency. I’ve brought this down to my interior in my house and similar color palettes run through my blog and website. It can evolve, but really try to think about patterns, textures and colors that just feel like you.

What’s your voice/tone?

SO important. Do you want your voice to sound like you are talking to your bff? Pristine and buttoned up? Low-key/high-key cool? All of it matters. What you read here, should be similar to what you read on my IG, tiktok, etc. It should just flow.

What will people see?

Another tough one. If you are a blogger, you need to figure out if you will be an iphone photo kind of gal or will you be weaving in the pro snaps too? Are you going to be focusing heavily on video? Again it can evolve, but the look and feel should be fairly consistent.

Social Talk

You know this is my favorite subject ever, so let’s go there. Before I say anything else, I need to stress authenticity. People smell bullshit from a mile away on Instagram and when they do… it ain’t good for you okay? Whatever you put out on social, should be a reflection of who you are and should be consistent. Here are some examples of things that you know and can expect to see from me:

  • Start the day with a thought or a thot depending on my mood
  • Workouts
  • Twin hilarity
  • Social tips
  • Marriage-isms
  • Sharing something I’m wearing/loving/eating

You know what you are going to get even if it’s been a boring day on my end. This is the story I tell. And remember, what you don’t think is interesting, may be interesting to others. In fact, this was the driving force behind this blog. I didn’t know how much people were fascinated by having twins. I knew my obsession was real, but I didn’t think anyone cared, until I started sharing and was asked so much about them.

Lastly, don’t be afraid to formalize any of the above. It doesn’t make you contrived. It doesn’t make you a blogger if you don’t want to be. And it makes you thoughtful in your story – that’s all.

Ask me all the things down below and of course my team at TheMediaSocialites.com is always here to take your message and make you really f-ing cool.

Till next time,

P
