I was sitting at Nothing In Between Studio getting a manicure and chatting with this sweet pregnant woman next to me, who told me she was so scared, because she felt unprepared. She felt scared, because several women in her life had freaked her out telling her that her life was basically over… You know I was on a soapbox rant at this point, but it made me realize that this is way too common and it just has to stop. CAN WE PLEASE stop telling soon-to-be parents – especially Mamas-to-be that their lives are over with their new baby?

3 Things To Stop Saying to Pregnant Women Right Now

My life and our lives started when the twins arrived and it’s all in your perspective and approach each and every day. I’ve compiled a list of things people say to moms-to-be that just needs to end ✋🏽 I do think sometimes people don’t realize it, but perhaps this will give you pause to just not say these things below:

Your life is about to be over

Sometimes it’s said that directly, sometimes it’s more the general underbelly and I hate to say this but…it’s often said by other moms! Like wtf! Stop projecting your lives onto other people. Can we flip it and just say things like “I’m here for you if you need me” or “I’ll be here for neutral advice anytime”– you know, a place of love? The truth is kids DO change things, but so much is variable to your support system, truly. Just as each parent is different, each one has a different home life situation too.

You are gonna get HUGE

Just don’t. It wouldn’t be cool to comment on how fat or thin someone is any other time, so let’s stop doing this, okay? I found it weird when men would say this. No no no. Let’s focus on having a healthy Mama and healthy baby.

Did you want a boy/girl?

I’m rolling my eyes in a big huge way here. I think most people want healthy babies. I think the narrative here should be, “I hope you are having a healthy baby and an easy pregnancy”. The end!

It’s easy for others to project their own feelings or experiences onto a pregnant woman, because being a parent is so deeply personal HOWEVER let’s just take a pause. Think before we just say and ASK if they want our tidbit or advice. Yes being a parent is hard, but it’s also incredible. The love we feel from our little people is like no other, so let’s raise each other up so the world of motherhood feels a little less alone. Fair?

Till next time,

P
