I’m going to be really honest with you for a moment. I’ve been following Dale + Elizabeth of Sweats & The City for YEARS. Every time I visit a new city, I’d check where I should go to work out, the best home workouts, best studios, best healthy snacks – they are my go-to source for fitness. Now that I’m both managing influencers + content creators and working with brands to facilitate partnerships on behalf of brands, I thought it was time to illuminate some of the creators, who inspire me and I’m over the moon to share my interview with this talented duo. Here we go!

Snack Chats with The Ladies of Sweats & The City

Can you share how you both came together and what was that point where you decided to start SATC.

We were set up as blind roommates over 5 years ago! A few months into living together, we came up with the concept of SATC before even realizing it. We found ourselves coming home at the end of the day, discussing new studios & workouts we had tried. We were in search of a platform that would give us the kind of inside scoop we were chatting about … the details that couldn’t be found elsewhere. So, we decided to take matters into our own hands. We sat on the concept for about 8 months, putting together review lists (mostly for friends and coworkers at the time), before we decided to go live with it officially. It was really when we finalized a name that we decided to go for it.

I’ve got those quarantine munchies. If you could only have one snack, what would it be and why

We LOVE snacks – we actually have a IGTV series that is focused around “snacktime” – so it’s hard to choose JUST one. Here are some we love: Lesser Evil Cheddar Puffs, Simple Mills Cheddar Crackers, literally any yogurt + granola, Skinny Dipped Cashews, Granola Butter with fruit, etc.

Sometimes quarantine workout life feels more challenging to find motivation from home. How are you finding the vigor to sweat at home?

It has definitely been a challenge. This has all forced us to recreate a sense of community at home … the one that brought us into the fitness industry in the first place. Sharing our workouts with our community, doing IG lives, zooms,, etc. have all been amazing ways to connect with others while we sweat from our apartments. Locking it into our calendars and setting up our space are also things we highly recommend doing. There are so many amazing online offerings, and having that variety is incredible and keeps us motivated, too!

What are a few of your favorite at-home workout/streaming right now?

That’s like choosing a favorite child! We do everything from larger workout platforms like Obe + JetSweat to instructor platforms like Megan Roup, Melissa Wood Health, Legs by Laureb, Body by SJ all the way to Zoom classes with instructors like Dana Levit, Zach Bergfelt and more. It’s honestly harder to find something we DON’T vibe with than those that we do.

Which studio are you most looking forward to reopen

We are big Pilates fans – and in our opinion, you can’t fully replicate the reformer at home. So that’s been really nice to have back (even though these are mostly in private sessions). We look forward to the day when we can go back to a spin class and just feel that awesome energy in the room.

Can you share a little bit of your perspective on diets?

We don’t subscribe to diets and we very much have the mindset that what works for us, might not work for you. We also believe there is no one size fits all method to heating. We’re all unique, our bodies’ needs are unique, and it’s so important to tune into that. Doing what feels best for you is what we believe to be the best approach when it comes to eating. Counting calories, cutting carbs, etc, and identifying yourself with a diet might make you feel ‘safe’ in the short term, but we don’t believe it’s sustainable in the long term.

Favorite activewear brands for quarantine chic lewks right now would be?

Beyond Yoga, FP Movement, Alo Yoga, P.E. Nation, Varley, The Upside, Splits59, Adam Selman Sport, and Fabletics is great for a lower price point!

Switching gears for a moment

How do you share your honest perspective on the workout without crushing the brand?

We’ve built our brand on honesty, but we also want to make sure we are uplifting and supporting our industry. Our goal is to share what we love with our audience, and if we come across something that’s not for us, instead of bashing it – we try to just state the facts! We also explain that this workout might not be our style. But it might be yours if you like x, y or z. We have studio reviews that come out every Friday and live on our website (you can check them out here), and they make the process of reviewing studios very clean cut. We will rave about what we love, and we’ll always state the facts. Our goal is never to offend a brand or studio. We respect the businesses people have built and understand that everyone operates differently.

Where are you looking to take SATC in the future?

We are always looking for new ways to expand and grow our community. We hope to grow our platform geographically, and perhaps come out with more merchandise or services that will bring value to our community.

What is one piece of advice for new content creators looking to go into business together?

Everything you put out is a reflection of your brand. Think about how each opportunity will contribute to your message, your growth and your brand as a whole. This helps us to sort through collaborations and partnerships – in a way that will be serve our community and help us grow.

THANK YOU Dale and Elizabeth!!!

Till next time,

P
