I wrote this and thought I’d share it with you. I’m sure many of you can empathize in some way. Thank you for reading:

A Letter To My Sons About COVID-19

To my Roman + Laurent –

I’ve never felt so lucky that you are only two years old right now and it is unlikely you’ll have any recollection of this period of unknown time. As such, I am grateful for your smiles and the sunlight you so desperately crave. Right now the world is frozen and Mama and Dada are trying to hang on tight. Though, it’s rare that the entire world can feel one emotion all at the same time, but it’s happening and it’s sadness and it’s fear.

I’m sorry for the rollercoaster of moods you’ve been experiencing from us. But both Mama and Dada never expected to be stay-at-home working parents, but the universe had other plans and we are doing our damndest to make it work and give you something to laugh and have fun with everyday. This is our new normal for we don’t know how long so bear with us!

I know you want to go outside, I know you want to play on the slide. I know you don’t understand where our friends went? Where are Papa and Aja at? You keep reciting all your classmates and teachers names daily, which is breaking my heart. My sons, you WILL get to play on the slide again. You WILL see Papa and Aja and go back to school, we just don’t know when.

Helping Others Will Help Us

Mama + Dada might seem extra sad or frustrated right now, but it’s because we are trying to help others feel less pain through this time. Helping them will help all of us, I promise. There is beauty in this stillness, there’s a lesson here, we just have to be open and aware enough to receive it.

Through this, we are doing our best to shelter you from it all. Keep you healthy, keep you happy and take as many walks as we can. You both are such smart little men, we know you understand something is wrong.

My greater promise to you is this: this is temporary. We will learn from this great lessons – the biggest one being to appreciate the small moments. That time is truly precious. These moments with the two of you I believe to be God gifted to me as a bonus. My promise you is that we will have ice cream, brunch and playdates in our future.

I will do everything in my power to keep you home and keep you healthy. I love you so much.

Your Mama xo
